Have you noticed that  if you Google a term like “Chiropractor” you get a map with chiropractors near you?

Google decides what terms have local intent.  If you are looking for pizza, a dermatologist or a plumber, Google assumes you probably need someone close by and serves up the map with nearby options.

If you have a brick and mortar business where proximity is important to your customers, you need to rank on the Google Map.

Google is not the only local listing that counts – listings and reviews on sites and apps like Yahoo! Local, Bing Local, Yelp, Insider Pages, Merchant Circle, Urban Spoon, etc., not only help you for people searching those sites, but also give you higher ranking on Google Maps.
